SANTA BARBARA FOUR SEASONS ENGAGEMENT : BEN + LIZ

There is just something so amazing about the California sun.  Descending slowly over the Pacific ocean it practically engulfs you, hugging you with a soft golden haze. As the waves roll over one another, the light dances across the water, casting thousands of tiny beads glistening in a sea of blue and foamy white.  Feet buried deep in the warm sand, it might be one of the most magical places in the world.

A huge smile spread across my face as Liz and Ben waved at me from the front lawn of the Four Seasons Resort.  They are two of my closest friends and I couldn’t have been happier to see them.  Originally high school sweethearts from North Carolina, Liz and Ben made the move to Los Angeles almost a year ago.  I am photographing their wedding this May, and I can’t wait to see two people so perfect for each other and completely in love commit to spend their lives together!

Liz and Ben, thank you so much for creating the opportunity to hang out with me while I am out on the west coast!  I had so much fun capturing your Santa Barbara engagement session and I can’t wait to share a few of my favorite photographs from our afternoon on the beach.  Enjoy these pretty pictures of you in your new HOME!

Ben and Liz are getting married on a cliff overlooking the gorgeous mountains in Greenville, South Carolina!  I am already so excited for their incredible day.

This sweet couple first started dating as sophomores in high school.  Ben saw Liz riding her bike through his neighborhood and he was immediately smitten.

Ben was a great pitcher for the baseball team at Gardner-Webb University.  He still loves throwing the ball on the beach with Liz.

Liz, your ring is GORGEOUS!

Congratulations again Ben and Liz!  Your relationship is so inspiring and I couldn’t be happier for two of my favorite people on the west coast.  I LOVE YOU!

Amy,
It is great seeing the pictures of Ben and Liz. I know you care about them very much. I love the last photo with the reflection in the water. My favorite…surprisingly is the rings with the Converse shoes! Very interesting.

SKYLANDS MANOR WEDDING : CHERYL + ADAM

They met in the 4th grade, in Ms. Alley’s class to be exact.  It was Cheryl’s 9th birthday and Adam couldn’t help but notice the bright-eyed, blonde haired girl that lived across the street from him.  Even at such a young age, Adam knew there was something special about Cheryl.  Over the next 18 years, Cheryl and Adam grew fonder and fonder of each other and eventually decided to date outside of the classroom.   In an incredibly romantic and nostalgic gesture, Adam took Cheryl back to the very window of the 4th grade classroom where they first met.  Getting down on one knee, Adam told Cheryl he had always known she was the one for him and asked Cheryl to spend her life with him.  Cheryl happily agreed, excited to be marrying her childhood sweetheart and best friend!

This past Saturday, Cheryl and Adam tied the knot at the beautiful Skylands Manor in Ringwood, NJ.  On the ground rested a fresh layer of soft white snow, making this gorgeous estate nestled high in the mountains even more romantic.  Cheryl walked down the aisle in her mother’s wedding dress, bringing happy tears to her family’s eyes.  Guests dressed in elegant black-tie danced the night away under the warm glow of the old-fashioned lanterns hanging above.  As the sun went down and the sky turned a dusky blue, Cheryl and Adam shared a soft kiss, whispering their “I love you’s“.  Their genuine happiness could be felt by their family and friends around them, making an already amazing evening absolutely perfect.

Congratulations Cheryl and Adam!  It was a true honor to capture your incredible wedding day.  I hope you are having a blast skiing the slopes of Montana on your honeymoon.  Here’s to many years of happiness in your future!

Cheryl and Adam didn’t spare any detail for their gorgeous wedding.  I just love this custom wood sign pointing guests to the Skylands Manor.

Cheryl and her girls had a blast getting ready in this immaculate bridal suite.

Cheryl decided to wear her mother’s wedding dress down the aisle, making both of their dreams come true.

The delicate lace on her veil added a soft, romantic touch.

Stitched inside the dress was Cheryl’s monogram and wedding date in blue.

Cheryl’s mom’s feeling of overwhelming happiness was written all over her face when she saw her beautiful daughter in her wedding dress.

Cheryl, you make a seriously STUNNING bride.

LOVE.

Adam got ready in the Skylands Manor’s impressive library.  A big thanks to Mekina Saylor for capturing these great shots of the guys.

Adam and Cheryl opted to see each other for the first time in an intimate moment just between them.

As Adam turned around and released the white balloons, he saw his beautiful bride for the first time.

Emotional moments like this one truly filled my heart with so much love and joy.

STOP IT!  You guys are just too adorable.:)

After the first look, Cheryl and Adam took me around the Skylands Manor to their favorite spots.  I fell in love with the floor to ceiling windows in this sweet breakfast nook.

What a gorgeous wedding party!  I love the taupe bridesmaid dresses from For Her and For Him.

A big thank you to Susan Meier-Blake of Tyrrells Flowers and Gifts for putting together such beautiful florals!  Fun fact: Susan is also Cheryl’s aunt!

Cheryl and Adam had a little fun playing around the Skylands Manor before the wedding.

Guests were handed these gorgeous programs and wedding bell wands (to wave when Cheryl and Adam were pronounced husband and wife) as they entered the ceremony.

Cheryl’s grandmother decorated the pretty arch Cheryl and Adam were married under.  The structure was actually made of copper from Cheryl’s childhood home.

Officiant Bari Braun conducted a sweet ceremony centered around Cheryl and Adam’s love story.  It had guests laughing and crying with joy along with the bride and groom.

HAPPILY MARRIED!

After the ceremony, guests headed to cocktail hour.

For dinner, family and friends had a choice of filet mignon, encrusted atlantic salmon, vegetable napoleon, or stuffed french cut chicken.  YUM!

At every guest’s place setting rested a hand written thank you note from Cheryl and Adam.  It was a unique, personal touch that made each person feel so special.

Delicious cake by Frungillo.

Cheryl and Adam shared their first dance to “Let’s Do It” by Alanis Morissette.

Sweet toasts with lots of laughter came next…

…followed by a night filled with carefree dancing!

To end the evening, Cheryl and Adam snuck away for one last kiss under the soft light of the rustic lanterns.

FEATURE ON : SUZANNE TARTA KRAAI

I can honestly say there is no greater feeling than receiving genuine praise and recognition from another creative, especially one you look up to so much.  This Monday, I had the honor of photographing my talented friend Suzanne.  Suzanne is a singer, songwriter, and commercial model and actress. (You might remember her catchy song “Hold Love” from this previous blog post.) She is also a fabulous English teacher at Eastern Christian High School.  Not even 24 hours after our photo session, I received this sweet letter in my inbox.  With Suzanne’s permission, I am sharing it below.:)

“It’s that feeling when you snuggle into bed after an exhausting week of work with a good movie and glass of wine leaning on your beau’s arm.
It’s the time your closest girl friends surprise you from out of town to celebrate your engagement and the last days of ‘all my single ladies’.
It’s the sincere touch of a generous gift, which warms your heart and brings new perspective.
It’s the comical and most unexpected night, which led you to karaoke ‘Go-go Jason Waterfalls’.
It’s the finest dining you’ve experienced with engaging conversation in your brand new, and soon to be, signature lbd, outrageously highlighted by smashing accessories.

It’s hard to provide a succinct allegorical view of a universal experience that makes one feel uniquely individual.  Working with Amy and Mekina is inviting, lighthearted and simply joyous.  Amy’s eye for detail, gentle direction and clear vision culminate with Mekina’s astute angle compliments and skill with the art of beauty.  The two work fluidly and complimentarily, making you feel special, beautiful in every way and almost, dare I say, a cross between Audrey Hepburn and (minus season 3 last 5 minutes) Lady Mary Grantham- classic and regal!  Their positive spirit and easygoing demeanor invites the timid to the most visionary of ladies.  A shoot with Amy and Mekina is creative, fun and professional.  Leaving a day with these two ladies leaves me compelled to spread the news… it’s simply the next big thing.

I struggle to match the appropriate diction only because it’s hard to summarize the heart’s fulfillment.  Shooting with Amy on Mekina’s rooftop is like walking through a dream, or perhaps it’s what reality should be- where you’re glamorous and adored; nonetheless it’s quite surreal.  Their friendship and generosity are overwhelming not only because of their magnitude and abundance but the most rare quality of all- its genuine nature.   I was so blessed, appreciative and touched by my day with Amy and Mekina, I pray all would be as fortunate as I am to find grounded women whose influence and support makes them into better people.  Humbly I can’t think of a free-lance agent, llc or even a major corporation I would rather endorse than Amy Rizzuto Photography.”

Thank you again for the incredibly kind words Suzanne!  Mekina and I truly enjoyed spending the day with you on Monday and are so thankful for your friendship!

DAYS LIKE TODAY + THE IMPORTANCE OF REST

Ever since I started my business I have dreamed of days like today.   Having the ability to make my own schedule is a blessing and a curse!  Because I love what I do so much I often find I will go weeks, even months, without taking a day off.  Today, two of my closest friends invited me to spend President’s Day with them.  I am not going to lie…my initial thought was NO WAY!  Not on Monday!  I just photographed a wedding and I was ready to get to work.

As I tried to figure out the right thing to do, I remembered a dream I had when I started my business.  I had envisioned using one day a week to do the things I loved. I dreamed of matinee movie Mondays, soaking up the sun while reading a good book in the park, and using the day to really rest. “It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.” -Psalms 127:2

As much as I wanted to jump right back into work, I knew it was important to take some time for me.  I spent the day enjoying a bagel and coffee to a morning showing of Safe Haven (AMAZING), shooting pretty sun filled photographs on a NYC rooftop, and sampling Mercadito’s delicious guacamole.  Most importantly, I had a blast with my friends.   I came home feeling truly refreshed, rested, and ready to take on the week!  Thank you Mekina and Suzanne for a fabulous time and for reminding me how important days like today really are.  I love you both!
